this book is a great source of information and photographs about older marks of Chieftain. It covers similar subjects to Rob Griffin's "Chieftain": development of Chieftain MBT, layout, crew roles, armament, communication. This book is quite a rare find and this particular example was kindly shared with me by Richard Dunne.

Chieftain was the British Army's first true main battle tank. Designed in the mid-'50s to replace the aging fleet of Conqueror and Centurion tanks, it became the mainstay of the Tank Corps until its replacement by the Challenger in the 1980s. Griffin covers the tank's full design and development history, specifications, variants and uses, and explains that the tank was undeserving of some of the negative publicity it drew during its operational lifetime.

Illustrated by over 180 photographs, contains all the great modern fighting vehicles, written in snappy and easily accessible style, includes main battle tanks and self-propelled guns, full specification table for each vehicle, all measurements in imperial and metric, features mine clearers and infantry fighting vehicles.

The M4 Sherman medium tank was the mainstay of the American and British armored forces in World War II. From its introduction in 1942 until the production line closed in the second half of 1945, tens of thousands of these versatile armored fighting vehicles were produced. In addition to the basic tank, which itself went through numerous modifications during its three year production run, many more Sherman variants were produced. Hunnicutt's work is an absolute must for light tank enthusiasts. Covering earlier development of the American light tank beginning in the 1920's, it ascends through the 1940's. Tanks covered include all variants of the M2, M3, M5, M8 series light tanks and even LVT (Landing Vehicle, Tracked) vehicles. Coverage is also provided, albeit surprisingly, on the M18! Illustrated with black and white and color photos, line drawings and color plates; it includes action as well as technical views. This in an excellent book for researching Combat units in WWII. It gives you information on where the units were based, who they were commanded by, what Squadrons were in which Groups and campaigns they were involved in.
